S.C. Attains National EMAP Accreditation

SCEMD EMAP Accreditation

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (Wednesday, December 4, 3:00 P.M.) - The South Carolina Emergency Management Division and the State Emergency Response Team received the high honor of national accreditation this August from the Emergency Management Accreditation Program.  EMAP is a nationally recognized voluntary review process that demonstrates through self-assessment, documentation and peer review, that a program meets national standards for emergency management programs.  Seven assessors evaluated 64 areas to find SCEMD and SERT in compliance.  EMAP officials told SCEMD that this is only the second time in their program’s history that a state was found to be complaint at the out-brief stage of the review process.  SCEMD officials attribute this prestigious accomplishment to the hard work and professionalism of SCEMD and SERT staff.  EMAP accreditation is not easy as only half of the states have been awarded this honor.
