Focused on Outreach and Lessons from 2024 Disasters

The South Carolina Emergency Management Division welcomed more than 100 emergency management professionals, community leaders, and nonprofit partners on Wednesday for the agency's 2025 Day of Recovery.

This annual event brings together recovery stakeholders from across the state to strengthen coordination efforts and improve strategies for helping communities rebuild following disasters. This year's workshop focused on survivor outreach, communication, and lessons learned from the 2024 disasters that impacted multiple regions of South Carolina.

Panel discussions featured local emergency managers, nonprofit leaders, and state agency representatives who shared experiences and best practices on topics including community engagement, unmet needs coordination, and the challenges of long-term recovery.

"The Day of Recovery gives us an opportunity to reflect on what we've learned and to better prepare for the future," said SCEMD Director Kim Stenson. "Recovery is never just one agency's responsibility. It's a partnership. Today, we're reinforcing those partnerships to make sure we're ready to support South Carolinians."

The 2025 Day of Recovery also included networking opportunities aimed at enhancing coordination between state, local, and nonprofit recovery teams. The event underscores SCEMD's continued commitment to whole-community recovery and disaster resilience.
