Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina Emergency Management Division is continuing to monitor Tropical Storm Imelda, as the latest forecast track continues to shift away from the South Carolina coast. SCEMD has returned to OPCON 3 (Normal Daily Operations) but will continue to track the storm’s path.
According to forecasters with the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Imelda is located near the central Bahamas. It is expected to stay offshore from the state but could still bring impacts to the coast. Tropical Storm Imelda brings a risk of coastal flooding, high surf and strong rip-currents through mid-week.
“Although there has been a forecast change, it’s always important to stay vigilant,” said SCEMD Director Kim Stenson. “We are still in the midst of the 2025 hurricane season. It is crucial to stay informed and always be prepared.”
Hurricane season ends on November 30, 2025. SCEMD encourages residents to:
- Pack an emergency kit for you, your family and pets.
- Create an emergency plan and practice it with your family.
- Sign up for localized emergency alerts through your county emergency management agency.
- Pay attention to any vulnerabilities that your home may have to hurricanes and take steps to prepare for them.
