Help for Public Agencies
After a disaster, local, county, state, and territorial government agencies may be eligible for federal or state grant funding to support response, recovery, and rebuilding efforts. Eligible applicants are encouraged to compile and submit estimated disaster-related costs to their county or the state as soon as possible after a disaster event. Early cost reporting supports accurate damage assessments, informs state and federal funding requests, and helps prevent delays in accessing available assistance.
Below are key disaster recovery grant programs available to public agencies:
FEMA Public Assistance (PA)
Federal funding to support debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the repair or replacement of damaged public infrastructure following a presidentially declared disaster.
Eligible applicants include state agencies, local governments, tribal governments, and certain private nonprofit (PNP) organizations.

SC Public Agency Recovery Assistance (PARA)
State-funded and administered disaster recovery funding to reimburse local governments for certain disaster costs from significant hazard events when federal disaster assistance is unavailable and disaster costs exceed a county's federal threshold for federal Public Assistance.
Eligible applicants include counties, cities, towns, and special-purpose districts.
